As it was more than once spoken, organization W3C is engaged mainly in development and creation of base XML-standards.


Last year has been marked by the statement of eight standards XML concerning support of performance of searches, transformations and access to the XML-given and documents. The major specifications among them: XQuery 1.0: An XML Query Language, XSL Transformations (XSLT) 2.0 and XML Path Language (XPath) 2.0.


These new standards will play an essential role in corporate systems, providing communication{connection} of databases and Web. XQuery enables to investigate the data at the most different levels, since messages of webs - services, and finishing{stopping} mnogoterabajtnymi relational databases. In XSLT 2.0 new functionality in comparison with widely used standard XSLT 1.0 which provides transformation and performance of XML-documents has appeared. Both specifications are connected to standard XPath 2.0 also essentially added in comparison with the previous version.


Language XML Query is already used in a number of products of the majority of large suppliers SUBD, and also in XML-SUBD, in the software of an intermediate level (middleware), systems of editing XML, and also in set of products with an open code. - members of consortium W3C - declare the organizations the plans of introduction XQuery.


Standard XSLT 1.0 which have appeared in 1999, is widely introduced on webs - servers and in browsers, and also is the important part of a modern infrastructure of business and designing. The long-term operational experience with language has allowed to prepare the essential list of new functions in XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0. Including the library of functions has been expanded, new opportunities of a grouping and aggregation, and also more serious processing of texts are added on the basis of regular expressions.


Standard XSLT 2.0 is compatible with XML Schema; in case of their sharing more exact detection of mistakes is provided during compilation and execution{performance}, so, and reliability, so necessary in corporate applications. Introduction of the new specification began since 2002, in parallel with its{her} development. The analysis of 150 thousand various projects with use XSLT 2.0 has shown all advantages of new opportunities. Actually, many organizations, since publishing houses and finishing{stopping} banks, already use in operational systems XSLT 2.0.
